Tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor of Liberal Studies – Grand Valley State University
Required qualifications: Completed Ph.D. in interdisciplinary social science related field at time of application. Demonstrated teaching excellence in an interdisciplinary environment incorporating diverse perspectives. Successful interdisciplinary social science research experience.
Preferred qualification: Interdisciplinary Ph.D. preferred. Experience in engaged pedagogy and community-focused courses. Experience teaching collaboration, integration, diversity and problem solving. Experience with liberal education and integrative learning. Experience teaching undergraduate research. Experience advising undergraduate research projects. Experience with interdisciplinary collaborative research.
Responsibilities: The Liberal Studies Department is at the heart of GVSU’s nationally recognized liberal education initiative and is housed in the innovative Brooks College of Interdisciplinary Studies. The successful candidate will teach and develop courses for the Liberal Studies major, maintain an active research program, supervise students in research and scholarly activities, and have a strong commitment to excellence in interdisciplinary teaching. Courses to be taught may include LIB 100 Introduction to Liberal Education; LIB 201 Diversity in the United States; US 300 Interdisciplinary Research Methods; and LIB 325 Understanding LGBTQ Lives. Service to the program, department, college, university and larger community is also required.
