Updates from a UI&U graduate

Sha-Shonda Porter, a graduate of UI&U’s Ph.D. program and a member of Cohort 3, recently emailed us to send us some updates. Here’s what she had to say:

I am currently serving as Director of the Writing Program and Associate Professor of English at Paul Quinn College.  It is a small, liberal arts HBCU in Dallas, TX.  So far, it has been interesting.  Essentially, the Writing Program has been non-existent, so I have spent most of this semester preparing the foundations for the program.

I will be presenting, “Racial Identity Development Critique:  A Way of Reading and Writing African American Literature” at the Hawaii International Conference on Arts and Humanities (Honolulu, HI) in January.  I might also be teaching an EDUC course, Introduction to Childrens’ Literature, in the spring.  If so, I will likely incorporate my method, RIDC, into the course.

Congratulations on all your accomplishments, Sha-shonda!
