Cohort PhD Learner News

Congratulations to two Cohort PhD learners who had papers accepted to the annual meeting of the Florida Consortium of Women’s Studies, which was held on April 1-2 at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, Florida.  The theme of this year’s conference was “Gendered and Racialized Technologies of Change:  Moving Discredited Knowledge from the Margins to the Center.”

The presentation of Enid Sepulveda Rodriguez (Cohort 7), which included a reading from one of her short stories, was titled, “Bad Daughter, Virgin Whore of Third Avenue: The Other Stories of a Puerto Rican Girlhood in the Bronx: Writing Fiction as a Way to Achieve Symbolic Justice and as Social Justice Activism.”  Claire Nomura (Cohort 4) presented her paper, “From Shake Girl to Pika Don: The Graphic Novel as a Tool to Teach Social Injustice.”  Cohort PhD faculty Diane Allerdyce and Chris Voparil were there in support of this fine work.
